About Compound Miter Saws

Updated on

Compound Miter Saws is an independent buying-guide site for miter saws. We help you work out which type of saw suits your jobs and which models are worth a look.

The guides are written for homeowners, DIYers and small-shop woodworkers who are about to buy their first saw or trade up from an old one. You don't need to know the jargon, because we explain it as we go.

What you'll find here

We cover compound, sliding and cordless miter saws in 7-1/4, 10 and 12 inch sizes. We also cover blades, laser guides and the other add-ons that go with a saw.

Our cut guides explain what the miter and bevel settings do for jobs like baseboard corners and 45 degree joints. Our matchup pages compare saw types side by side, such as sliding against fixed and corded against cordless.

How we work

For every saw we cover, we read the maker's specs and features and compare capacities, weight, bevel range, power and what comes in the box. We also look at what buyers often say after using one.

Then we write short guides, direct comparisons and clear picks. Our How we research page walks through each step.

What we are not

We're not a tool maker or a tool store, and no brand pays us to rank its saws.

We're not a safety trainer, either. A miter saw has a fast, exposed blade, so we send you to the maker's manual for setup, guards, clamps and safe use.

We don't claim to have run every saw ourselves. When we pick one, we explain why, based on its specs, its features and buyer feedback.

How the site earns money

Some links go to stores like Amazon. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

That never changes which saws we pick. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
